Thermostat Install

My MF 35 still overheats. Talking story at the local auto supply store and the clerk says that the little brass plug that is in the rim of my new thermostat has to be installed in a specific location. Is this true? If so where/how does it go?

Doesn"t matter WHERE the brass "jiggle pin" air vent goes.

What matters is that the copper or brass colored "wax motor" bulb points toward the source of heat (the cylinder head) rather than towards the radiator.

The "jiggle valve" needs to be in the 12:00 position if it's a vertically mounted thermostat.
