More problems overhauling my JD 60

I put the first reduction gear together as it shows in the John Deere parts catalog for JD60 (pages 40-6 & 40-7), as well as following the JD Repair Manual for JD Model 60 (pages 60-20-2 through 5). The problem is that the power drive gear goes in about 3/4" further than the first reduction gear. Only about 1/4" is meshing. Any suggestions of a solution would be much appreciated.

Anyway, thanks for responding to my frustration. I got it solved today. I called the local (in North Dakota) JD guru and he gave me suggestions re: what I could try. By not pulling the clutch gear up tight on the splines, I was able to get proper allignment. I got the clutch on today and the block. Makes me think I might get a tractor again <g>. T Nelson

The clutch driver and crank is worn loose and will rattle. There are over size clutch drivers to fit tighter on worn undersize crank splines.
Watch the alignment of the seals and oil drain holes.
