HELP wiring 1944 farmall H

Hey guys I bought a 1944 Farmall H back almost
three years ago and have been slowly restoring it.
So far I have spent a lot of time stripping the
surface rust and repainting it and now am into
more of the electrical problems that she came
with. It is a 12 volt system in it now because the
former owner decided to switch it over but did so
by adding a 12v car alternator and mickey moused
switches and wires everywhere. I have a 12v Delco
Remy generator and voltage regulator and have been
told to take out the solenoid that was rigged
under the hood but don't know where to really go
from there. I have wrecked electrical systems in
small engines in the past before and would really
like to do this the correct way. I've looked up
the wiring diagram for one with a distributor like
mine but it still makes no sense to me. I was
hoping I could get some actual photos tracing the
wires through the ignition system to hook up a
toggle switch and push button starter. Thank you
for your help. If pictures are needed just let me
know.

Looking at the wiring diagram, this tractor has one of the simplest electrical systems I've seen...Nothing but the basics!

If you have an original starter, there is no solenoid or push button. The switch is mechanically actuated, mounted directly on the starter.

If you're going for a restoration, I would buy a wiring harness and headlight switch (unless you still have the original switch). Most harnesses come with a wiring diagram, and as you start installing it, everything will fall into place, be pretty obvious where everything goes.

There will be some differnce in the regulator wiring, but that will be an easy modification.

wireing harnesses from John Brillman are labeled with a diagram so you know where every wire goes. lThey are cut to fit exactly. Super simple. Dont have his number off hand but he has a website.

Steve, it is only the Super Hs that use the starter mounted switch. All of the others do use a push button type starter switch. Earlier Hs had the switch mounted in the rear fuel tank support bracket. Later Hs used a bracket that mounted the switch on the steering wheel support post, opposite the amp gauge/light switch box.

Thanks for the correction! It"s so easy to make
assumptions that can inadvertently lead someone
astray.

International Guy: Hope you read this before going
on a wild goose chase for the wrong starter! LOL
Like to add one thing, get yourself a repair
manual. It will save lots of second guessing from
dummies like me!
