the alternater on my 430 case started boilin batteries and killin them ,,. figured out it is overcharging,, I unplugged the alternater for now... nephew said it was expensive fix ,,, anyone btdt ???

Depending on the make and model of the Alternator, I recall (but no warranty memory cells are full lol) seeing all sorts of relatively inexpensive voltage regulators and repair kits on E Bay, may be worth a look see???

If it's a Delco SI series - new regulators are only around $10. If an older DN series with an external regulator new electronic regulators are around $25.

Look at the plug you unplugged from the alternator. If it plugged in from the side, and is about 1" x 1/4 wide, it is a 10SI alternator. This is internally regulated. They are also very plentiful and inexpensive to purchase rebuilt. Any auto supply will have them.

If the plug went in from the back, and is about 1/2" square, it is an externally regulated alternator. There will be a regulator mounted elsewhere. Problem is, there could be a problem with the alternator (bad diode), or the regulator, causing the problem. If you want to keep this alternator, be sure to have it tested before assuming the regulator will fix it.

If it were mine, I'd switch it over to a 10SI. Minor wiring change and good to go!
