Holley R4119 - 1A float adjustment

What is the float adjustment spec for this carburetor, and how does one go about it? I admit I'm pretty ignorant - successfully rebuilt a carb or two many years past (Volkswagon) but that was then and this is now.....I've been searching for help on this all night and all over, with no joy. Can anyone help? Had to install a cheapo kit I ordered last year and never used until the other day when the tractor wouldn't start for its annual chore of brush hogging - traced it to fuel, pulled the carb. Pretty ugly inside. varnish and jelly, broken pump spring, etc. Got it running (poorly - needs 1/2 choke to run at all), but it's clear I need a better, more complete kit (found one, I believe, but it doesn't show a guage), and after reading many comments here on the necessity of good float level adjustment on these Holleys, I'd like to do it right the second time. So - how is it done? Thanks in advance.

I know finding the specs is the right way to do it, but I've put more back together without knowing the measurement than the ones I did know.

If you can't find it, just turn it upside down and get the float parallel with the top, or look for some reference that "just looks right". I know, not very scientific, but sometimes you do what you have to do.

Since you say it was really gunked up, wondering if something might still be clogged? Did you boil the carb? Boiling in a mixture of water and vinegar will make it look like new, and get to the hard to clean places. Then blow it out, making sure every passage is clear. You can get basic carb circuitry diagrams online, give you an idea what everything does and where every passage goes.

Thanks Steve - New kit is here, complete w/ vacuum pump. Boiled the carb last nite, blew it out at work this AM, and managed, with application of heat, to get the stubborn part of the pump out of its recess. Will be reassembling and remounting sometime in the next couple of days, float specs be d**ned. Expecting the best.....
