Hello, I have removed the transmission due to a heavy leak. Should the transmission shaft be woobly and loose or should it be tight when trying to move it back and forth? thanks

It will be a little wobbly but not very much because the shaft is not one solid shaft from front to back. There are 13 roller bearings between the front and back half of those shafts. If they are not there and in good shape you will get a lot of wobble. My guess is you need new bearings in the trans. Take out the four bolts that hold the cover on, remove the cover. Then wiggle the shaft, you will be able to see where the front and rear halves come together and that is where the front and rear bearings come together.

Input shaft on that Warner trans is supposed to be
loose. When installed it has the support of the
pilot bearing at the end.
