Farmall H governor pins question

I am in the process of rebuilding the governor on my farmall H. I put in a new thrust bearing and took out the old pins. From the picture you can see how worn the old pins were. The new pins slide in place easy and can slip out as well. My question is, Are these pins suppose to be tight and pounded in or do you have to do something to the ends to make sure they don't slide out? The old ones don't slide in and I would probably have to pound them in. It also looks as if one end of the old pin is beveled out so that it cannot slide past a certain point. I know from reading other posts that the weights can wear as well. Was wondering if this is the reason why the pins move so freely. If so, what would i have to do to the weights to make them tight. Thanks for any help you can give.

Unless you have a shop full of machine tools, and can make the pins from "scratch" and can stake them properly in place, the last time I looked the aftermarket version of the whole assembly wasn"t too expensive.

I used 1/4" bolts, with a shank long enough to pass all the way through the weight. I "staked" the nut into place.

The hole in the weights was not quite large enough to allow the 1/4" bolt to pass through without binding, so I "lapped" them in with some valve grinding compound.
