Ford 8n Transmission stuck

I replaced some parts on the hydraulic lift ( ram gasket (above cylinder, and o ring on piston) then re assembled. let my gaskets set and this morning drove it around. went to run it this afternoon and wouldnt go into gear just grinding. troubleshoot determined the old ( disabled) ignition switch had dropped down and locked shifter. Removed switch and reinstalled trans cover. then started then it was stuck in gear seemed like second gear then heard a pop from trans or pump housing sio shut it down. pulled shifter cover and starter rotated engine backwards and jacked up rear tires. tried to pry the shifter plates back into neutral but nothing will budge very much. tractor starts, clutch works, let off clutch (engages) and tractor dies like the trans is siezed or somthing.

any help is greatly appreciated, in a very hard financial spot with this.

thanks

Nolan

I studied his site, but i cant get the engine to turn backwards by prying the flywheel with the clutch engaged. it moves 1/4 inch with very hard force and bounces right back to the same position. so i cant get the pressure off the gears. i cant get the shift levers to slide the gears into neutral

just spent an hour trying to turn the flywheel to get the tension out of the trans and went in both directions, i can put all my strength to it and it moves the flywheel about a 1/2 inch the eventually my prybar slips and it bounces back and im left with some bloody knuckles. any other tips on how to unstick the shifters from the dentals?

Don't worry about getting the engine to turn
backward. Pry it forward until it stops, then pry
it backward 1/2 that distance. All you're trying
to do is get the stress off the gears.

When moving the shifters, don't pry against one
shifter to move another. Look and see what the
shifter moves, pry against the case or gear, not
the other shifter.

But... Something may be broken, since you heard a
pop. There could be a broken tooth binding the
transmission.

I just got back in from the field. There is 2 teeth missing on one of the big gears up top. My friend held tension off the flywheel and i popped the shifter forks into neutral positions. I got all the shifter forks popped into neutral position, and the plates lined up like John Smikth says, and its still forward in neutral, bogs in reverse, bogs in the rest. rolled it in the forward neutral gear real slow to the garage popping and clunking intermittently at slightly higher speed then a clutch crawl. Any way to disloge broken pieces? im thinking of a trans swap, or i may part it out... dang! runs perfect, just got the lift working right, has a skyline loader whith a hydraulic bucket scoop, looks great and runs like a sewing machine.
in the first pic below theres the missing teeth.

Shoot me an email with a phone #. I have a Sherman transmission that I'm getting ready to put on EBay. I'm parting out an 8N. Keith
