Farmall M won't run right

I"ve got a 1951 farmall m that won"t run right. It sounds like a hit and miss at low idle and sometimes with more throttle. It dies off then it revs up a bit and it keeps doing that. I rebuilt the distributor a couple months ago, just points and the condensor. about amonth later it started to sound like a hit and miss. I"m pretty sure it isn"t a fuel problem, I rebuilt the carb and cleaned it well prior to rebuilding the distributor. I"ve tried advancing the spark with the distributor but it still doesn"t sound quite right. I"ve also tried adjusting the fuel mixture and the 2 idle screws on the carb but I don't know how those screws work. I also have a new distributor cap and plug wires around if those would help the tractor. Any ideas?

main load screw on the carb, start at about 3 and a half turns out. idle circuit screw, about one and a half turns out. check your distributor shaft bushings. pull the cap off and wiggle the rotor side to side. if there is enough play to affect the point gap, replace the bushings.

Look at Stacey's picture in the post below then do this.

Over to the right is the air adjustment for the idle. Get the idle smooth then open it up wide open with the hand throttle and adjust the one you circled to the fastest RPM and then turn it back in until you just get it to slightly slow the RPM's and you should be good to go. When adjusting the idle have the power needle turned out a coupla turns.

The actual idle RPM's are set with the stop screw on the back. You adjust the mixture to where it idles smooth where the stop screw is set. They have to be changed very little at a time. First the stop screw and then the idle mixture screw to get the desired low idle.

Alright thanks for your inputs. Im going out of town tomorrow and will be gone over the weekend. I'll do what you guys have told me and I'll get back to you and let you know how it went.
