Need some advice. Found some advice in the archives about fire damage and was pleasing news on my problem. Still want more info before I get started. I had 2 restored Ns in a shop fire. One has the front and half the hood burnt and one tire was drooped. 2nd one steering wheel and seat cushion melted and some blister paint but no flames got to it just lots of hot air and oily soot problems. Need advice on how to first clean off the soot and prep them for paint, Metal all seems ok no visible distortion, or is it something I wont see till I start to work on it? Thanks in advance.

Big thing is change ALL gaskets before you paint. They will take some heat but not for long. It would be a big pizzer to go thru repainting them just to have them leak like a sieve. Also have the rad check for the solder joints to see if they leak. Did the fire dept use foam to help put the fire out? If they did your in for a up hill battle to get it of the metal for paint. Pretty corrosive stuff .
