Howdy,I have a 49 TO20 that im rebuilding.I have a new 2 1/2" upper cylinder that matched my old scared unit.A guy gave me a new piston out of a 8n.This piston has the o-ring in it instead of the 3 piston rings like my old one...will this o-ring style piston work in my fergie hydraulic upper cylinder?

Thankyou,Mike.

If everything about it is the same, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

All you have to loose is having to go back and redo it, can't see where it would cause any damage.

I appreciate the reply.

It measures the same, just the o-ring in the middle of the piston on the new one instead of the original having the 3 metal rings on its piston, similar to what you would find on an engines piston and ring set up.

I was just hoping for some confirmation on this.Cause the guy that told me this 8n piston would work also told me to pull the pump out the top...I found the pump must come out the bottom on the TO20.

Thanks,Mike.

Yes it will work although I have tried it myself but you have to remember that the TO-20 does not have a filter in the hydraulics and orings do not like dirt and grit. That and the fact that aftermarket orings and backup washers are not as good as genuine CNH orings and neoprene backup washers. Look at it this way,the 3 steel ring piston setup lasted 65 years. The oring setup won't last 65 years.
