Ford 501 sickle bar mower

I am refurbishing an old Ford 501 sickle bar mower. One of the last adjustments (I hope) I have to address is aligning the section knifes and guards at the end of each stroke. The middle of the section knifes is about half an inch off the center line of the guards at their most outward and inward position.
If I understand the manual correctly I have to place shims in between the main frame and the arm assembly. There are three 3/4 " bolts there. Can I place big washers in between or do I have to find shims that follow the shape of the connection. I am worried that just washers will put too much strain on the bolts. Any suggestions what to use as a shim, how to make one or find one would be of great help. Thank you

According to the parts book those shims are 1/8" thick. If it was me I would shim it up with washers until I got the register correct and then measure the thickness of the washers. Then make a template out of cardboard and go to a machine shop and have them cut a shim out of whatever thickness sheet metal you need according to whatever the thickness of the washers was that you stacked up
