Need a little advice.I got a 1973 massey mf200 dozer with the perkins diesel.I pulled the head and there was rust on piston walls which wasnt to bad.when I drained the oil nice clear water came out first about 2 gallons and then came the oil.what im wondering is if the water came out nice and clean could there be not that much rust if any inside of engine.before I pull the oil pan which is kinda hard on this dozer should I fill it cometely up with something first to see if it might free something up.im working on pistons from the top right now.also im wondering as long as the shifter is in nuetral there shouldnt be anything keeping the engine from turning over right?.thanks

Was there coolant in the rad befor you pulled the head? Any idea how long the unit sat before you got to it? Sounds like a cracked head or block or a leaking head gskt. Agree pulling the oil pan is big job with the unit dead but once the belly pan is off it goes fast. Good luck, from Dane.

I forgot to add that the exhaust was taken off and all the water most limely came through from there.what I was wondering mostly is if things can rust in the engine when its completely full of water and oil.can I just fill up the engine again with something to clean it up and free anything that might be stuck before I pull the oil pan.head was in great shape.some rust in cylinders were water came in but not super bad.pistons are stuck.thanks for any replies

You can clean up the liners with emery cloth, then soak with diesel fuel hold the liners down with bolts and washers, plug oil passage for rocker arms, put about 2 quarts of diesel in crank case and crank over with starter if engine is free, if not free fill it full and let sit,for a while, try working to free it once free roll it over on starter until your satisfied that things are free, drain fluid change filter, assemble ,use a 10 w oil start and run for abour an hour ,drain and change filter refill with your oil of preforence, and keep an ear open for any thing that is not right. Run another 10 hrs change oil again, and you should be good to go.
