We had the fuel pump rebuilt. Put it on and made sure the two
lines in the window lined up. This should make timing ok, I
hope. It turns over, smokes a little but wont turn over. I sprayed
a little either in vent and tractor will stay running, remove either
and shuts off. Im getting fuel to all four lines going into engine.
They spurt fuel like they should. Im out of ideas and would
greatly appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.

WHY was the IP removed in the first place.. what was the issue?

Were the timing marks lined up BEFORE the IP was removed?

When I put the fuel pump back on it was doing what its doing now. I was stumped so I asked the ford dealer for some advice. He asked me if the lines where lined up.
I said I dont know, didnt know I was suppose to. He saud it sounds like its not ligned up. Well, didnt have any other idea so I drained the tank, took the inspection tab off and it wasnt ligned up. It was close but nit in line. I had to bump the motor to get the pump to line up so it would seat properly. Well, we put everything back together, made sure all air was out. Tried firing it up and just smokes. Its warmed up enough, glow plugs hot, engine ready to start. Like I said I can spray either in and it will run fine. Im lost at this point, dont know what else to do or check. Thank you for your response. Floyd

I have no experience with the ford 800 but it sounds like your injection timing is not set properly. I would start by making sure that was correct. It runs off the ether because it is getting drawn in with the air supply on the intake stroke of the firing cylinder . However, if you stop spraying the ether and the diesel is not being injected into the correct cylinder at the right time, it will not fire and stop running. Sounds like it is delivering fuel, just not to the right cylinder at the right time.

They have to turn over fairly fast to pop off. They will crank all day at slightly under the needed speed without starting.

You are most likely 180 degrees out of time. Make sure you are in the compression stroke when the line is in the window. If you are on the exhaust stroke, it will behave like you describe. Bottom line, check it again.
