Battery blew up / Cleanup?

My battery blew up in my skid steer the other day, just wondering what is the best way to clean it up.
The end blew out the plastic and now you can see the insides.

I threw baking soda all over it so far.
Should I hose it down with water to?

I have chemical resistant gloves for protection and goggles along with pants.
Thanks Jeff

Yes, it needs to be cleaned up ASAP!

Get as much water on it as you can, start with an open hose, low pressure to flush without splattering it on yourself and what might not already be contaminated.

Then switch to high pressure wash, like a pressure washer if you have one.

Remember any dirt that may have soaked up the acid will hold it and cause corrosion of anything it is in contact with. The cleaner you can get it, the better.

Follow that with an alkaline type liquid detergent or baking soda and water. A pump up sprayer will help get it into difficult areas.

Wonder why the battery exploded? Something short it out? Overcharging?

Happened to me on a tractor one winter. I had walked about 15 feet from and it went. It sounded like a gunshot.

Baking soda is good the key is to neutralize and dilute. Like Steve said an alkaline cleaner like CIP if you have it or oven cleaner will do a good job of neutralizing but rinse well because CIP or Oven cleaner can be more corrosive than battery acid.
