47 8n will not throttle up

Hello im New to the tractor world. I have an1947 8n Ford that has set for some time. Ive already put a lot of new parts on New carb. Radiator,water pump,fuel tank,ect. My question is this. I finally got it started and it ran great I shut it of and restarted it and it idled fine but when I go to throttle up it act like its bogging down bring the throttle back to idle and it runs fine. Could the governer have anything to do with it or maybe I just sucked something in the carb. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks Steve

sounds like it is not getting enough fuel. try adjusting the high speed jet, but first make sure it is getting enough fuel take plug out of bottom of carb and see if fuel runs out for a few minutes.if not make sure the tank and line is free of rust and gunk and could also be a float issue.also make sure linkage is hooked up properly to the throttle from the carb.

Thanks for the reply. The carberator was just rebuilt im using
a clean mason jar for fuel until my new fuel tank arrives. Im
just trying to get it to run right before I put the hood and all
back on. Its sucking the fuel out of the jar fine pretty quick
might I add. I will take the carb. Off and just make sure
everything is clean. Thanks again for your help.

Since you're new to this,are you pulling the choke out when you throttle up with the engine cold? It's not an automatic choke. Does it still act the same way when the engine is warmed up or haven't you let it run long enough to get it warmed up?

Could be a number of things causing this problem as others
have stated , but one more thing to check if its not fuel related,
is the weights under the points.Under the plate the points are on
are weights that advance the timing when you throttle up. If
they get rusty they can stick. A little wd40 will usually fix the
problem.

This tractor does not have a fuel pump as it is a gravity flow system. I don"t see how you could be getting enough fuel to run the engine. How does it get gas from the mason jar? The carb bowl must be full of gas to run properly.

I believe that if it were me, I wouldn't do anything to it until I got the fuel tank back and installed. Then see how it runs. As someone noted, it does not have an automatic choke like cars do. you have to keep it partially choked till the engine gets warmed up. You'll know when to push the choke in because it will start kinda pulling down and you will possibly see some black smoke comming from the exhaust. There should be a rod comming from the carburator back to below the dash. That will be your choke. Just my thoughts, Keith

ecause the mason jar is upside down. lol.Agreed that's definitely part if not all the problem I'd wait on a gas tank as well.
