JD 70 Head Torque amount and pattern?

Is 205 foot pounds correct? I know I need to get a service manual.

When I took the head off there was something resembling Teflon on the threaded studs. It was on the smooth portion.

I'll be using new lead washers under the hex nuts for the head.

Thanks

No help for you but I am trying to get my 70 head off.....not
responding to gentle persuasion, how easy did yours slide out?
Might note that I am trying to leave on the manifolds as the
bolts there are shot.

Thanks in advance.

Instead of guessing and having to do it over again $$$. It's cheaper to order from the nice folks at 1-800-522-7448. They have real JD service and operator manuals. On CD or hard copy.
An IT manual contains just enough info to get into trouble.
Parts manual is online at the JD web site.

I'm trying to recall if I had trouble getting it off.Had to put this project on hold and was about a year ago when I took the engine apart. The pistons were stuck from the tractor sitting so long without use. I soaked them with penetrating oil a long time before getting them freed up.

Believe the head came off relatively easy. The hard part was getting the cylinder case to budge. I might should've done like you and leave the exhaust manifold on. No matter how much penetrating oil and finesse used, still broke one bolt off. I took my time too.

thanks for the info. after some levering I have at least movement on mine so will expect it can be done. hope you have good luck finishing your project.
