I bought this ford tractor to cut a couple of acres It has done so much more It' a great machine, modern manufactures should take note.
I am having trouble with the clutch It will only let me shift when the throttle is all the way back.
Is there a adjustment on the clutch or does it need replaced.
Would appreciate any input.
Thanks Don

How fast,RPM wise are you trying to shift it anyway? Is it only grinding from neutral in to gear or when shifting from one gear to another?
Not to be a smart alec, but are you young with no experience with standard transmissions?
The drag from the pilot bearing will cause things to keep spinning in the transmission making it necessary to idle it down when going in to gear from neutral.
If the pedal just isn't pushing the fingers in far enough on the pressure plate, yes, you can adjust the linkage from the pedal.

The only thing you can adjust externally is the "free travel".

With NONE, it will slip, beyond several inches of free travel it will be hard to shift.

If the free travel is within reason, likely the clutch is oily (from a leaking rear engine seal or front transmission seal), or the linings are coming apart or it's otherwise bent or damaged, or the pilot bearing in the flywheel is about to seize up. You may want to joint up over on the "N"-specific Board.

I may be stating what you already know, but you don't shift a tractor up through the gears like a car or truck. You pick what ever gear is right for what you want to do, and start out in that gear. Even 'road gear'(4th on an 8N). The gears do not have syncronizer rings like modern gearboxes.Even when starting from stationary,I would have it much above idle when putting it in gear. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.
