John Deere 2550 load shaft seals

The load shaft seals are leaking on our tractor and would like to know how to replace them. The shop manual says to remove the cab and all the parts for the rock shaft and the load shaft. I've seen other posts dealing with other John Deeres stating, that they were able to pull the load shaft out part way and replace the seals. Can I do the same thing? Can I pull the load shaft completely out to replace the bushings at the same time? Any help will be appriciated.

Are we talking about the shaft that passes through the bottom of the transmission case. That the lower three point hitch arms pivot on?

It"s an easy job to do. It will take longer to drain and refill the transmission case than to change out the seals.

Drain the transmission, remove lower 3 pt arms. Using a punch, drive the shaft into the case just far enough to reach the seal with a pick. R & R the seal. Do other side the same way. Reattach arms.

You can measure the bushings while the shaft is out of the way.

When I got the seals for the 2550 last summer, the parts counterman questioned me about whether the load shaft was original to the tractor. It led me to believe there was an upgrade at sometime, but I haven"t looked it up to be sure.

If the shaft ever needs to be replaced, there is a hole in the wheel for it to pass through so the wheel does not have to be removed to service the shaft.

Our 2550 has around 6000 hours. It has had 3 sets of load shaft seals, and still has the original shaft and bushings.
