Isn't it good to find the source of a mystery problem!

Can it be fixed? I would only try as a last resort. I've seen some true artists that could weld cast iron beautify. But then I've paid good money for someones false claims.

Not knowing the specifics of this particular part, what caused this? Is there hydraulic pressure there? Does this "stop" the sector travel? Did something unusual happen that likely won't happen again?

Welded cast iron will never be as good as before, MHO, but if all it carries is return to tank pressure, might be worth a try. Any way to pressure test it after it's welded?

It could probably be repaired but would need to be done by someone with considerable experience with cast iron. Not a job for a DIY fix. See if you can locate a good used one or possibly a new aftermarket part. Brazing might be the best option to repair it if you can't find another one. Lots of prep work and proper procedures need to be followed to have a successful repair.

Tom,

Cast iron is quite weldable as long as you DO

NOT use arc weld. Use oxy/acet with bare cast

iron and flux.

If you are paranoid ,put it in a box and I'll

do it for you.
