1953 j-d model m running hot

Check the bottom radiator hose to see if it's hot.
If it's cool your water pump if it has one may not be circulating the coolant. The tubes in the radiator may be plugged and needs to be rodded out. Check the ignition timing. Hal
 
The "M" didn't use a water pump.

No thermostat, either, probably has a "shutter", though.
