Farmall H idle problem

uproar

I rebuilt the carb. because it was leaking fuel out of the gaskets and at bottom of carb. It use to idle down before, maybe not down to were it should have, but better than after rebuilding it.
I screwed in the Idle jet until it stopped, now I wonder if I should have NOT screwed it all the way. I opened the governor up and checked the tension of the spring, it was loose.
I can turn in the Idle screw all the way and no effect at all. I thought I purchased a quality kit.
Anyone have any idea's about this.

When you put the carb back on did you get the gov to carb linkage back correctly?? Also the idle screw works backwards of the main jet as in out to make richer in to lean it.

I put the gov. shaft into the notch on the carb, and had to hold the carb. and turn a little to line up with everything. So you think I should open or turn out the idle screw?

In most cases you set the idle screw at about 1.5 turns out from bottom and leave it alone. Another thing you probably need to do now that you rebuilt the carb is to go threw the gov/carb adjustments as per the I-T manual

Let's stop here for a little terminology. It sounds like what you are calling your idle jet is what is more commonly called the low speed mixture screw. As young fella Old says the low speed jet works opposite of high speed, but not like he says. Low speed jet controls an AIR passage so it is out for more air in for less air. A he said maybe you have the linkage incorrectly installed but the idle SCREW may be on the back side of the carb, and you should be able to see the stop that it will hit when as the engine idles down to keep it from going too low. The low speed jet is normally set for the highest RPMs, with the engine running at idle speed. After setting the low speed the idle stop may need to be reset.

Sounds like you need to re-synchronize the governor to carb linkage located beneath the cover atop the governor riser.

Adjustment procedure is straight forward. It's covered in the shop and I&T manuals. Or if you have neither, post back and I can walk you through it.
