I bought a massey ferguson 50 not running, i went through the normal steps for timing but what i have is when i move the distributor for the break in the points the rotor is pointing midway between 1 and 2 it cannot fire there, are there different distributors and or caps that someone may have exchanged? thanks ron

Bring No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke
then see where your rotor is pointing. It should be at the No1 plug tower. Also check your plug wires on the distributor cap to make sure they're in the correct firing order on the cap. 1-3-4-2
in the direction as the rotor turns. Hal
PS: Have you checked for fire to your plugs? If there's no fire you need to make sure you have battery voltage to your coil. Use a volt meter
for this. Also rub your points with some 320 wet or dry. The point gap is .022".

Not sure what drives the distributor on your Massey, but if it is gear drive someone may have removed it and not put it in right. As stated before, #1 on compression at about TDC and your rotor should point at the #1 terminal.

not that it makes any difference if it's installed correctly but Ford distributors will fit. that's what my MF 50 has. runs fine.
