8n starter stays enguaged after starting.

I have a 1984 8n ford,recently had the started rebuilt.the starter was staying enguaged after it started.it did this before the rebuild and it it still doing it after it has been rebuilt.any suggestion on why it stays in while engine is running?

Mine was doing that, intermittently. It was and aftermarket starter button that was dirty and sticking at times. I got lucky and replaced it first and the problem went away.

I haven't had the desire to take the original out or check it to see if it works. The previous owner had done the modification and my main concern was making sure the mechanicals were in shape.

no 1984 8n's.

in any case. if starter is running on check wire to relay from thumb switch.. make sure it is not shorted. if not.. check relay.. contacts can weld..
