have replaced govenor. new from YT. govenor does not ENGINE SPEED. and i forgot how to time(no magneto) distributer using test light. any help??

Not sure what your saying about the gov but to time it you get #1 cylinder to TDC on the compression stroke then line up the rotor to the #1 nipple on the distributor cap and install the distributor that will get up in the ball park.

replaced old gov.with new replacement. got the tdc ok. engine runs but when advancing speed .no change in engine speed. i used to be able to check distributer point timing using continuity tester. have forgotten what part of tester to clip on to dist. and see when rotating it tester lights up, thus indicating dist. points at proper opening/ closing. any ideas??

Sounds like to have the carb/gov linkage hooked up wrong or a spring is not there or hooked wrong. As for the test light you hook that to the distributor side of the coil and when it lights up the points have opened

There should be a spring that will try to hold the gov form opening you the carb and if on wrong makes for odd things to happen. I would have to go out and look at my BA to be able to explain it better. By BA I am talking a tractor I built form 2 Farmall Bs and an A. It is a B front the transmission forward and an A from there back

Governors always fight against spring tension.

The spring is on the throttle linkage to the governor arm.
