I have a Ford 8N and it will not keep a charge. When I got this tractor the previous owner stated that it would need the generator/magneto to be polarized. Does this sound right to anyone and how would that be done? Or would it be something else?

It sounds like you are talking about two different things. If your battery takes a good charge, which you can measure at 6 volts right after you shut it off, but then drops off after a day or two, that is most likely a battery problem. If you measure voltage while it is running and it is below 6 then you have a generator problem, and it is not going to charge the battery.

8N is not at all likely to have a mag on it and that even if it does has nothing to do with the charging system
If it has a generator yes it may need to be polarized but if you ask this down in the 9N/2N/8N forum you will get more and better answers
