Ford 2000 weak PTO

My tractor is a 1974 Ford 2000 diesel, 4 speed with live PTO.

Problem is the PTO is getting weak. When bush hogging, high, thick grass will stop the cutter/shaft all together.

Could this be that the two stage clutch is going out?

Any ideas?

Thanks

first.

ford 4 speeds of that era do NOT have live pto.

they are single stage clutch and non live.

second. a 4spd with a Dual range selector stick ( twin stick ) is an 8 speed. that those are COMMON with a 2 stage clutch and live pto.

assuming clutch freeplay is correct.. and it is the pto slipping and not something inthe driveline like a torque limiter.. then yep.. time for a clutch job.

I have a Ford 3000 4 speed. I second what soundguy said " No Live PTO on a 4 speed." Look at the clutch.
