cleaning brass

I have an old brass fire extinguisher. What is the best way to clean it without harming it? Thanks for any help, Mark.

Metal polish and a buffing wheel.

Still need to be careful. Maybe not in this case, but removing patina can/will lessen the overall value.

I have never tried it, but an antique restorer once told me that tidy bowl bathroom cleaner was the best and cheapest brass cleaner you could buy.

There is a product called Brasso that does a good job.

belive it or not but my wife polishes all our brass with ketchup always looks great after wards and a lot cheaper than any polish
