matching a decal

I am working on a Harvey Red-Hed corn
sheller. On top of the feed hopper was the
decal. When I wet down the hopper I can
see what the decal looked like. Is there
any way to duplicate what I see of the
decal? It is mostly just a matter of the
paint fading different since the decal
itself is long gone.

Can you feel any rise to it when you run your fingers over it? If so,can you just lay a piece of paper over it and rub a lead pencil across it to get it on the paper?

wet it down and take a picture. Then bring it to your local sign/decal shop who should be able to load it in there computer and duplicate it with the colors of your choice.

I'm afraid there is no real physical difference. I was thinking the same thing. I had no idea it was there until after I wire brushed it and was wiping it down with a cleaner.

Here is a photo of the Harvey Script , it might be useful in your restoration .

Hi
Being very interested in restoration, I've been watching Ricks restoration show on satellite history channel.
When those guys get obsolete decals on things, they use clear plastic like goes in an overhead projector, and a permanent marker pen to trace the decal.
I wonder as you can see the decal pattern when wet,if you can trace it like that. Then head to the print shop with the pattern and color scheme. This seems to work for these guys, they come out real good.
