freeing stuck diesel injector pumps

Hi
I brought 2 tractors yesterday, they have Perkins p6 motors in with CAV vacuum governor, inline pumps.
Both pumps are stuck on the racks, and have a couple of elements stuck also. The rest lift/drop perfectly, when I tried lightly lifting them with a small screwdriver.

I was wondering if there is something good I could soak the pumps in, that might free them up with a little carefull work.
Was thinking about PB blaster but thought I'd ask here in case something betters around, That you guys have tried.

I am fully aware that they should really go to the pump shop , but don't want to spend 100's on them right now, until I get the rest of the motors free and figured out.
Thanks for your time.
Regards Robert

I don't have any great faith in PB Blaster, but
I've freed up many stuck in-line pump plungers.
Depends on how bad and what made them get stuck to
start with. Had a few Fords with SIMMs that got
stuck from lack of oil. Pried loose with a
screwdriver, filled the oil box and away they
went.

If all depends on what part of the plunger is
actually stuck. The CAV pneumatic pump is
basically just a box holding a camshaft with
pistons riding on it. Note that if things don't
work out - all the new parts are available from a
place in England. $130 for all new barrels and
plungers. $40 for a new governor diaphram.

Hi
Thank for the reply .the pumps have sat a few years like 20 I guess. As far as i can tell that's all is wrong. Ive had the simms like that to. some you get lucky others are boat anchors. these are just the element plungers I think the cam followers are all free. the ones where the elements move are anyway.
Thats interesting about the parts. that pump rebuild would be 1500- 2000 with the parts round here. I wonder if it would be cheaper to send the whole pump back to the U.K ,even with shipping costs.

The plungers were leaking into the cambox in my CAV DES inline pump. It ran it that way for a few year and finally bought all new barrels, pistons, and delivery valves and fixed it right here in my shop. Cost me less then $200. Got the stuff from Peter Slater in England.

Ok thanks for that :) I have actually looked at his site online this year, seen his advert in a U.K tractor magazine I subscribe to here in Canada. will see what happens, and give him a shout if I need parts.
