Thanks for the prompt and helpful info on the 3 point. Tractor has power steering that works great but the cylinder leaks badly. Is that a troublesome repair? Where do I get parts or should I just take it off and have a cylinder repair company take care of it?

I had one leaking badly maybe 6-8 years ago. The problem with these is that you have to cut them open to renew the seal. Good hydraulic shops are equipped to do this but it is spendy. It was around $360.00 back then. They install a new length of chromed rod along with a new seal.

You don't have to cut it apart to replace the rod seals. You
only cut it apart to replace the shaft. There is a snap ring
that holds in the seals.

But 99.95 of the time if the seals are gone so is the chrome, right? Don't replace seals without inspecting the rod on the bottom at mid point. I have one that wasn't bad so I cleaned it up good, put a little JB weld on it then smoothed it good with some 1200 sandpaper and it has been good.

I wouldn't say 99.5% of the time. Seals go out for lots of the
reasons ie- age, oil contamination, shaft pitting/rust, etc. I
work in the hydraulic repair business and see a few of these
cylinders every year. I would say for most of them the seals
are out just from age. I have one in the shop right now and
yes the chrome is coming off the rod. The customer is not
concerned ,and I can polish it smooth , because he only
puts a few hours on it a year and is stored inside. Also the
spot that is wore is inside the cylinder ,where it can't rust ,
when not in use.

Rufus, I have three of these rowcrops. My experience and others that I have talked to is that the chrome wears off right at the center, so with a slight turn of the wheel the worn part is inside. You may want to advise your customers to turn the wheel a little to the direction that pulls it inside before shutting the tractor off.
