Your old solenoid should have the letter B on the large terminal on the left for a battery cable. The large terminal on the right should have an S for the cable to your starter. The small terminal that has the wire is probably wired to a starter button on your vehicle. When you press the starter button it grounds the solenoid allowing voltage to your starter. Once the engine starts and you release the starter button no voltage is fed to the starter. Hal

"When you press the starter button it grounds the solenoid allowing voltage to your starter."

Bull, PLEASE don"t confuse him!

The statement you made (with few exceptions) applies ONLY to the oddball "ground little terminal to start" solenoids used on 40"s and 50"s Ford vehicles and 8N and several later models of Ford tractors.

The OVERWHELMING odds are that he has a modern 12 Volt solenoid that is activated by applying battery voltage to it"s small terminal. Just the OPPOSITE of your statement!

Thanks guy"s I appreciate the help, most likely will be a couple weeks until I can try to work on this but will post the results as soon as things slow down at work. thanks again Scott
