I have a 54 NAA and is time for another oil change. I have been using straight 30w oil and wondered if I should change to a multi viscosity or synthetic oil. I use this tractor for bush hogging and plowing food plots in the fall and spring so it doesnt get a lot of use.

If the tractor isn't used during the Winter I would stay with the 30wt. Hal
PS: I use 30wt on my garden tractor. If it's real cold I use a dipstick heater. I've had it since 1971.

i've switched all my gassers over to 15w40 C (s) rated oil. better oil thana straight 30... better flow at startup.. hot or cold.

beter at hot temps too.

win-win..

Is this generally a diesel oil soundguy? I googled it and saw several posts from this forum but all pertained to diesel tractors. Any particular brand I should look for?

I mentioned both C and S rated oils.

for all intents and purposes, 15w40 will be a C rated oil.. but also carries some S rating. Any S rating you can find today will be fine for an antique.

VERY occasionally you will find a Diesel C rated oil that carries NO s rating. I'd avoid that on principle.

At this point in oil tech.. any oil you can buy will be better than what was out whewn that tractor was new. including jiffy store brand and house brands.

IE.. walmart 15w40 runs lots of tractors on my farm. I buy it by the pail...

As mentioned 15-40 will work fine. I have used 15-40 in all my tractors, trucks and garden tractors ( gas, diesel and LP ) since the mid 60's.
