Using generator housing for alternator for originality

I read on here (though I now can't find the thread) that there are companies that can rebuild your generator as an alternator but using your generator housing. The article mentioned there were ads for it in the back of several magazines. I can't seem to find any such offers. Anyone heard of this or can direct me towards that?

Thanks,

RC

Find yourself a copy of "Hemmings Motor News",
magazine about the old auto hobby. I get mine
at the magazine stand at the super market. Barnes
and Noble bookstores has them in the magazine
section also. Every issue has several ads for
sellers of alternators in generator cases.

That's some cool information, and a great idea! Gotta make myself a note about that! I know a man who put a regular alternator on his '51 Ford flathead and it looks totally out of place on top of that engine!

when changing over to 12 volts I always get the original generator changed over to 12 volts, replace the voltage regulator with a 12 volt unit and ad a resister in the primary coil wire. Everything looks original and works as original. Oh yes, if you have lights on it you will need to add a resister there also. If you add an alternator in place of the generator, lots of wiring must be changed plus in most cases the ignition switch
