Farmall F-4 Magneto problems

Hello everyone! I have a question about my F-4 Mag. I am restoring a F-12, I sent the Mag off to get rebuilt by Mainly Mags. Its now a HOT mag! (I found this out the hard way) The problem im having is timing the dang thing! I do have the service manual and tried multiple time to time it that way. MANY times!! I just cant get it close enough to run. I can get it to fire when the lever is in full advanced position. But will not run! I think the problem is when the manual calls for a nail to be inserted into the oil cup to lift a pawl to disengage the impulse. The only pawl I can see is the big pawl that butts up to the coupling. But the picture in the manual shows smaller a pawl on the opposite side, further into the mag. I was wondering if anyone has a picture, (not from the manual) that shows this step, and maybe of a picture of the points position for starting, and the correct 2 o'clock position for hitting on No. one cylinder. Is it suppose to hit on No. 1 frst? or is the first hit going to be on No. 3 cylinder? Iv been pulling my hair out trying to get this thing timed!! and before you ask, all the alignment marks on the gears are correct and when No. 1 is at TDC the flywheel mark is in the register hole.

Any help, Pictures, or any advise is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Just set it up so it trips at TDC. There are 2 bolts by the coupling and many holes to put them. That is where you change it.

What is the position of the breaker housing? I know it grounds out in the all the way up position. So does it need to be fully advanced to start then move to a medium when it warms up?

No. The arm needs to be slightly down from the off position, this fully retards the spark so the engine does not kick back and break your arm when you are starting it. Once the engine is running push the arm all the way down to full advance.
