Close but no cigar timing issue found

Another day and a new discovery after checking a few things some guys suggested on the forum I discovered that as I turn the engine in its normal rotation clockwise I checked the rotor at the same time and its clicking counterclockwise ? Which unless I'm wrong would make the firing order 1234 . Are both the rotation of the engine and the rotor suppose to go the same way and if so how can I fix this? Thanks for all your help thru all this guys. Scott

If you look at this cap your firing order is 1-4-3-2 because your rotor rotates counterclockwise,I don't think they ever made an engine that fired 1-2-3-4. That happens even cranking the engine clockwise. That's why your impulse coupling is snapping. Hal

Sorry my mistake the rotor is turning clockwise is what I meant to say, so how can I reverse it ? Right now by it turning clockwise the order is 1234 which I know is wrong? So how can I get the rotor to spin the correct direction to give me the correct order?

I thought you said the impulse coupling is snapping while you're cranking. Is your mag cap numbered like the one in the picture I sent? If it is your rotor needs to rotate CCW. Hal

Yeah when I hand crank the engine I get compression at every cylinder and after TDC on each I hear a snapping sound. But I just checked again and the rotor is defiantly turning clockwise giving me a 1234 firing order? Ant idea how to reverse this?

You CAN'T reverse the direction the rotor turns.

And, you don't NEED to.

It is NOT uncommon for the rotor and the engine to be set up to turn in opposite directions.
Starting with having the wire from the #1 cylinder at the correct location in the cap, arrange the wires in the cap in correct cylinder firing order, in the direction the rotor turns.

If this disagrees with the markings on the cap NO PROBLEM, as the cap is made to fit MANY applications.

Sorry Hal I tryed to post a pic several times maybe the timing is off on my wife's iPad as well? I did however take a real good look and I do have a number one on the cap and I totally understand what firing order I'm suppose to have but the rotation of my rotor won't allow that correct order. Something is backwards?

Try installing the plug wires as Bob suggested using this firing order:
2-1
4-3 The rotor rotating CW

Ok I think what is confusing me is the shop I took it to marked 2 3 4 on the cap 1 is a given its stamped from the factory. So if my rotor turns clockwise no matter what my cap says the next fire after one going clockwise the wire should go to 4 and so on to get the right order so my cap is marked wrong from the shop

Lol with your help thanks for your help and patience, I will post an update in a day or two when I go for round 6 enjoy the rest of the weekend thanks again Scott

Here's a picture of your mag I took with my camera. It also has the firing order 1-3-4-2. Hal
PS: I answered your question further down. If you ran battery voltage to the mag you may have fried your coil. Wait and see if there's strong fire to your plugs.

If you are cranking your engine clockwise...
the idler gear is turning counterclockwise, thus
the magneto gear is turning clockwise.
El Toro's diagram is correct. Bye the Way: you DO
have an owners and service manual for your engine,
Don't You ?
