Hello all,

New to the site and would appreciate any help ya'll could give. I am restoring a 74 international 3200 B skid loader it has a Wisconsin VH4d that has been completely rebuilt 3000.00 worth. At this point we are trying to bench start the engine and the wiring has me confused, I bought a service manual that has a wiring diagram and have found many wiring diagrams on line however, they don't seem to be correct? I have the Fairbanks Morse FMX4B7A magneto type ignition and all the diagrams show a standard coil application. im just not sure how to wire this machine so I don't fry the points or anything else, any help?

As to the MAGNETO part of it, magnetos are self-powered and the engine will run with NO electrical connection to the mag, whatever. (OBVIOUSLY, except the spark plug wires!)

NO 12 volt power to the mag, EVER!

The only connection will be to a
kill switch" that grounds the primary terminal on the mag to stop the engine.

This can be a separate switch, or the correct ignition switch that is designed for mag use.

Thanks Bob I appreciate that info helps a lot. I guess im back to the drawing board at this point I have spark, compression, gas, air but it only turns over and wont actually start? I was thinking maybe the timing? Its frustrating as hell!

So far I sent the engine out to get broken down, bored, pistons and rings, gaskets , seals, bearings, fuel pump, carb rebuild, points, condenser, mag was tested and found to be good, spark plug wires. I just know it has to be something simple im not seeing?

Was the mag timed according to instructions when installed?

Do you have a manual?

Some are available for download at the link below...

Also, you might post on the Stationary Engines Forum... there are some Wisconsin GURUS over there who MAY not see this Forum.

The machinest I sent it to set the timing per specs but its still worth checking into I guess. I will post something in the other section thanks again.
