Does adjusting the rate of the third brush on the generator
work? I have a 49 super a that is not charging good and
wanted to know how much difference it will make or is having it
rebuilt a better option?

Iffffffffff it has an ADJUSTABLE third brush?? and ifffffffffffff its set towards the lower charge rate?? and if you adjust it towards higher charge YES THAT CAN INDEED INCREASE THE CHARGE Well DUHHHHHH

See how much if any it improves charging of you dead ground the Gennys FLD post?????? If that greatly improves charge but she dont charge much otherwise, Id suspect the light switch (if its a LHDB switch) doesnt have a good frame ground connection or is bad or the wire or a connection is bad from FLD on genny up to the light switch.

In the event it had a full fledged Voltage Regulator instead of the Low High charge light switch regulation, again the VR may be bad or not well grounded.

Para 5 of my Troubleshootign Procedure shows how to tell if non chargign is the fault of the genny itself or the VR or switch etc.

A rebuild???? If the genny is bad (see above for a test) sure a rebuild is in order although all it may need is a set of brushes or the commutator cleaned up etc or no tellin what.
