Farmall Super A

Mag or distributor??? Has it been switched to 12 volts or still 6 volts?? Hard for us to help you to help your self with lack of info

Mine used to do that. No spark when warm. Clean points & it ran ok until it sat awhile, then it would do it again. I was buying points from dealer. Switched to Eclin points from NAPA. No problems now for 3 years.

Replace the condenser and clean the points with some 320 wet or dry. Check the point gap its .020" for a distributor and .013" for a mag.
If you have a distributor make sure battery voltage is getting to your coil. With the points open you should have voltage on both terminals.

Make sure you're getting gas to your carburetor.
Pull off the gas line at the carb and see if there's a full stream of gas from the tank. If there's full stream of gas remove that tube fitting where your gas line connects and look for a screen that may be plugged. As Old suggested you need to post more info. Your coil could be failing when it warms up. Pull off a plug wire and using a helper see if there's fire to your plugs when the engine quits. Hal

In addition to what has already been said, it would probably be a good idea to remove the valve cover and check the valve lash clearances. The clearance gaps have a tendency to close up over time, and if the gap is too small, it might just go away completely when the temperature gets up. Naturally, when this happens, the valves can no longer close completely and the engine will then run very rough, or not at all.

I have a 49 super a... Hard to crank and when it does it will just cut off. What should I check first, it is still a 6 volt system.

Bad battery cables or the wrong size battery cables will cause that as will a starter on its way out

Is there a parts list for a super a 12 volt conversion kit? I have seen kits for other models just not super a and I am not sure if they will work.

Not really a parts list as such. I do all my own from the ground up to convert to 12 volts. But I was also a Navy E.T. so wiring is child's play to me. You need an alternator for say a 1980 Chev pick up no power any thing no AC. A radio shack diode 276-1661 and the wires plus the plug that plugs in to the alternator. Archives are full of diagrams as to wiring it or I can explain it also

The engine needs (1) burnable fuel mixture, (2) strong, timed spark, and(3) adequate compression to operate. Which one is missing when it stops running???

Have a spark tester available for the next time the engine quits; remove the coil wire from the distributor cap and check for spark at that point. That will test one of the three requirements.

Test, do not guess. Much cheaper that way!!
