There are six tiny and well hidden idle feed circuits. And two drilled passages that may contain rust and dirt that are hidden behind hardened steel balls. The carb body is identical to the 60,620,630,70,720 and 730. Then there are the all-fuel variations. Who knows what may have been mixed and matched with the different jetting etc over the past 57+ years.
What is the tractor doing or not doing right now?

Right now I have the tractor in pieces. Before I started working on it. Carbon everywhere, around spark plugs, head, Piston, and cylinder. Would only idle on one side, I think the right side, and would backfire when idling. It would still pull a three bottom plow, but not much power. I'm in the teardown stage of restoration.

Usually some slob pulls the thermostat out. Then richens up the idle and mains to keep the engine from stalling due to not warming up.
Mud bunged air cleaners are found from time to time as well.
Odds are the cam and follows are worn but 99% of rebuilder never give them a 2nd look.
Very economical to have a shop clean them up and even update for improved operation.
Valve springs need to have the seat and lift pressure measured. They do on occassion go soft.
Show, pulling and low hour use tractors can handle LP pistons and will run on pump gas.
Check for rusted through manifolds.
Use new grade 8 bolts on the flywheel and torque with a torque wrench.
Distibuter bushings are often worn and machanical weights sometimes stuck.
Don't bolt a worn fan clutch tight. That will tear the govenor gears out.

All good points, but what about my carburetor? Head is going to the shop, to get checked. I hadn't thought about the cam, but it should go to. Piston tops are in good shape, but haven't got them out. So they'll need to check. Thermostat was still in place, and water pump looks worn. Will need rebuild or replaced. Air cleaner was fairly clean, but intake tube was about half way blocked with dirt. There was also a good amount of crud in the water jacket. I need to find some one who can check the radiator. I have a long way to go.

The carb can be done at home if you want to take the time and have the patience. Roberts Carb has the parts, peices and tooling.
There are no short cuts on those carbs. A soak in carb cleaner and a blast of compressed air won't gain a thing.

Joe, I am no mechanic, I watched you tube rebuild a carb close to mine . I took pictures as I took it apart .then to a radiator shop they boiled it out and bead blasted it. $5.00, I bought a kit put it back together works great. Good luck john

I rebuilt one for a 520 jd with guidance from people on this forum and it turned out good. Very hard to get clean. Just take your time and be sure to get everything drilled out and clean. Give me a farmall carb anytime.
