Removal of grill screen

What is the most efficient way to remove a grill screen from the grill. The metal clip are a pain, they look like they are spot welded. I would like to keep the screen it's in great condition.

yes - they are spot welded.

I just clip the screen around the clips and let them stay in place.

Nobody will ever see them.

You're more likely to cause noticeable damage if you try to remove them.

If you MUST get rid of them, I'd clip around as I said, then go back with a dremel tool to grind them down carefully - but I think you'll see it's a waste of time.

there's usually a combination of the two types - some that bend over - and others that pinch the screen which are tack welded.

It's pretty obvious when you look at them which are which.

If you're talking about the clips that run vertically over the ribs and not the ones around the perimeter then here's what I did.I just removed mine.
They were spot welded on the folded part of the rib, not down inside like I initially thought. I found that if you just bent the clip back and forth the spot welds would break off the thinner ribs but when you get to the thicker ribs just carefully clip them (I used a zip wheel) parallel to the ribs. That way I only cut the screen where it can't be seen so I can fix it up without the repair being seen. It came off clean and I'll be able to reuse the screen.
Hope that made sense :)
