Farmall h 12 volt conversion

49erH

Hi guys. I'm new to this website and I'm sure this topic has already been discussed multiple times but if any one can help it would be appreciated. I recently ordered a 12 volt kit for my 49 H and it came with a wiring harness and an external resistor. But I also purchased a 12 volt coil to go along with my kit. It has an internal resistor and I'm not 100% sure how to wire it up. If anyone can explain or show me a diagram it would help alot. Thanks

Just remove your old coil switch the wires since a 12 volt system has to be - ground or in other words hook the - side of the coil to the distributor and forget the external resister. By the way no such thing as a coil with internal resister they are just made for 12 volts instead of 6 volts pure and simple

Well it"s a project tractor. It didn"t come with any wires on it. Does the positive side of the coil run to the ignition switch? And another question..since my points and condenser are still 6 volt do I need a resistor after my coil?

Yes the + side of the coil goes to the ignition switch and the points do not care if it is 6 volts or 12 volts and even 24 volts. The condenser is also the same and does not care about the volts and being a true 12 volt coil that should say no external resister needed it does not need the resister

ditto what old said.

real 12v coil? no resistor.

never use a resistor betweent he coil and dizzy anyway.

coil polarity matches battery polarity.

if negative ground.. - of coil to points..
