white smoke

Last fall I bought a 1946 john deere A. When it is started, it blows white smoke out of the exhaust for about 5 mins and then clears up. I put in a new head gasket thinking water was getting in the block, but it did not help. It still blows out white smoke. Any ideas would greatly be appreciated. Thanks Randy

Did it help any at all with the new gasket?
Maybe small cracks in the block cylinder walls

Did you have the head checked out when you did the head gasket ? If not the head my have a crack in it. I would have it checked if you did not.If the head is good the cylinders is the next place I would start looking as some one else has mentioned. It sounds like there is a crack some place and when it sits it leaks into the cylinder.
