Timken vs. National Bearings

Pretty sure the point is moot "cuz no one bearing manufacturer makes all part numbers and, whether you are buying Timken or National, for various part numbers, the bearing in the box will be someone else"s bearing re-packaged.

National OIL SEALS was purchased by Timkin, and
are now Timkin oil seals..same part numbers. I
don't know about the bearings, but, for some
reason, I just assumed that National bearings
were "Purchased" from others, and relabeled
National

Have you read the current company history and products? http://www.nationalbearings.com
Looks the same to me and i was told they went out of business nearly 50 years ago.............

You are right . I used to work for a company that rebuilt rearends for underground mining equipment and we were only aloud to use timken or national products .A timken rep came in one day and said that most bearing companys buy bearings and seals from timken and package as their own .

I passed the Timken plant last year and You should see all the steel they have in the yard! I drooled so to speak thinking of what I could make. Then realized, it is specialized steel for the bearings. They had a couple of train cars on the siding in the yard when I passed..
It looks like quite a facility and must make a huge amount of bearings and cups..
