shane-o-mac 02-18-2013 08:16:09 64.89.49.159 Report to Moderator	Hey folks im trying to restore a 494A 4 row corn planter for parades. Im in need of some help on how to go about painting the packer wheels. i got the wheel frames sand blasted and the wheels have rubber for packing. My question is what would be the best way to keep the paint off of the inside rubber. Like where the two frames come togther. it would be ok to tape it but there would be alot of little tape chunks. because theres little iron bars that comes down to the wheel. ill post a picture of what i got later. Also another idea is like using grease or something or soap but im not exactly sure. I thought i would ask some of you guys what your ideas might be? Let me know thanks! [Reply]   [No Email]

Oliver662011 02-19-2013 17:44:31 98.31.3.215 Report to Moderator	Re: Ideas on painting 494A packerwheels in reply to shane-o-mac, 02-18-2013 08:16:09   I restored a 494A not to long ago, you have two options, you can use blue painters tape for all the tire including the inside just use little strips and use a bare razor blade to trim along the edge. Or you can do want I did, tape the outside and carefully put plenty of rubber cement (craft/school supply type) on the inside part. Let the rubber cement dry, paint, when paint is dry just rub off the rubber cement, revealing the plain rubber underneath. Mike   [Reply]  [No Email]

I bought 14 planters one year and made them into two row planters. I never really worried about the rubber on the inside of the press wheels. I did rub off any over spray that may have gotten on the outer edge of the rubber. If you're worried about the paint on the rubber you can use plumbers grease. It's easy to brush on and washes off with a water hose.   [Reply]  [No Email]
