John Deere D Oil Slinger

I have a 1926 JD D, runs fine. However, when running it leaks engine oil out past the left main bearing around the oil slinger, onto the backside of the flywheel and just makes a mess to clean up.
Does anyone know of a fix?
Yes, I put it together using all the parts/seals the manual called for.
Any help appreciated.
 
If it's like the 730 Diesel,there's a pin in the back of the flywheel that goes in a slot in the slinger to spin it. Is that in there?
 
Yes the pin, or in my case, a small square key-way is in place.
I read with interest the other reply to my question.
Too many shims on the main bearing.
I know it was checked with Plasti-gauge when assembled.
I'm sure not looking forward to removeing that flywheel.
Pretty heavy, and I'm not getting any younger.
 
Could be that your drive pin for the slinger is not seated in the slot in the slinger. I had to replace the drive pin and remachine the slot in the slinger on my 48 D, both were worn badly. Replace the cork seal in the slinger while you're there. Check the L.H. main bearing clearance, but I would think it would be knocking if it was loose enough to cause an oil leak. be sure to use a c-clamp and chain fall or other lift on that flywheel, you sure don't want it to fall.
