It appears to me that most rims were painted silver like the ones that I have bought new. I have never seen a rim with remnants of galvanizing on them. I'm not saying that they weren't, but I've never seen them. I don't care for the aluminum that rubs off on your fingers, so I use a silver or argent, which looks just like the paint on a new rim. |

I've redone the rims on 3 different Farmalls, ranging in age from 1940 to 1950. On all 3 tractors I used a cup brush on an angle grinder to remove all traces of old paint, right down to bare metal, and I never found even one small indication that those rims had ever been galvanized. Not on the outside, or on the inside. I can only assume those rims were painted aluminum from the factory. |
