Do not know of any trick as such. You do need to make sure it hooks to the correct slot on the linkage. As for the gov adjustment yes that is in manuals like the I-T IH-8 and is in fact a full page long since you have to do a number of things and it has to be done as in a 1,2,3,4 type way

OK. I'll pull the carb back off and check that. Anyone have a copy of the procedure for adjusting the governor?

I Googled adjust governor Farmall H... and it brought up a link to a YT post from Nov. 11, 2009.

I stumbled across something more specific, taking the cover with the tube on it off and removing a key or something, can't find it again.

It's too cold to attempt taking the carb off tonight, but I did make an observation. When it first starts with the speed control at full slow, it runs very slowly, if I speed up the engine, it speeds up and slows down some when I put it back to full slow. As it warms up it stays closer and closer to wide open until it barely slows no matter where the lever is. I'm guessing I missed the notch when I put the carb on and it will push the butterfly open but isn't pulling it closed. Can I run it with that cover off (the one with the tube going up from it) and watch the linkage? I'm thinking I should pull the carb (when it's warmer), remove the studs, and reinstall it, then put the studs back in after it's in place. They really make it tough get around and get that linkage right as well.

Success!!!! I pulled the carb and then realized the tube from the governor telescopes so you can connect that with the carb down where you can see the butterfly before bolting the carb to the manifold. I hadn't noticed it before because it was dark and it was really covered in grime. I did need to loosen the screws on the tube flange on the governor end to get just a little more movement. When I had put it together the first time I had the pin not in the slot, but on the idle speed adjusting screw side so it would push it wide open, but wouldn't pull it back. Got it together and confirmed the butterfly was locked to the governor correctly. I've never been so happy to hear governor hunting.
