1950 Farmall H

I rebuilt the carb on my 1950 Farmall H and now the governor doesn't work quite right. If I start it with the governor set at the slowest position, it starts and runs, very slowly and smooth, revs smooth to wide open without stumbling and when I try to slow it down again it only slows down about half way. Next time I start it if it's set to low idle, it starts slow again. Any help????

check the tube from the governor to the carb. there is a slotted deal that needs to fit into the shaft coming from the governor. also, if you had the butterfly out of the carb on the main throttle shaft, be sure it is back in correctly.

I did have the butterfly out, and replaced the throttle shaft. How do I check to make sure everything is correct, it was kind of a challenge getting the carb back on and the governor tube and linkage connected.

I'm not acquainted with the governor to carburetor tube, but the butter fly in the carburetor has the edges at an angle. Make sure that angle matches the walls of the carburetor when closing.

Check the throttle stop screw at the governer-carb connection. It may be set in too far. I ran into the same problem on my W4. Back the screw off a bit and see if that solves your problem. I believe the initial adjustment is 1 1/2 turns out, but just back it off until it stops making a difference to engine speed and then turn it in 1/4 turn. (make final adjustments while tractor is running)
