farmall h starting problems

my farmall h was starting good with half choke at first but now it will turn & turn but not start... ive tried different choke positions but nothing... any help would be appreciated

Most Hs do not like to be choked at all for starting, but do require just a little choke to keep them running after being started. The only exception to that rule is cold temperatures, around 30 or below.

Trouble shooting 101 says to #1 check you spark and make sure it is a blue/white and jumps a 1/4 inch gap or more. #2 remove the carb drain plug from the bottom of the carb and let the fuel flow for a few minutes. Catch it to look at it for water/dirt/rust and then post back what you find so we can instruct you as to what to do

i checked the fuel in the carb and it was clean. i didn't check my spark but i do have champion plugs and ive heard bad things about them... any reccomendations?

Check the spark before condemning the plugs. Ya now days Champs seem to not like this crap gas we have but before you so much as throw one part at it find out where your problem is because if you do not do that you can cause your self more problems

i figured it out my starter was dragging and pulling too much power from the plugs. im either going to get my current one rebuilt or buy a new one

I'm new to the tractor world, but not to the world of internal combustion. You need air+spark+compression to run. Check Spark, check fuel, compression is harder to check, but less likely to be suddenly lost. I have started using a trick that works well to check for fuel, I use a propane torch (normally used for sweating pipe), DON'T LIGHT IT, open the valve and stick it in the air intake of the carb and try to start it, it'll fire if there's spark. Also very helpful in old low compression motors with updraft carbs when they have sat for a long time, it'll fire on the propane and start drawing fuel a lot faster than cranking....and cranking....and cranking.....
